Weeknote 11/2017
This week I’ve been:
- Sending out Thought Shrapnel, my weekly newsletter loosely structured around education, technology, and productivity. Issue #250 was entitled ‘(Azure) Window on the world’.
- Relieved that my father’s heart operation to fit a pacemaker went so well. I was also amazed that his heart is now connected wirelessly to a computer he keeps next to his bed, which in turn is connected to the local hospital. It’s like a high-stakes version of Fitbit!
- Recording and releasing Episode 78 of the Today In Digital Education (TIDE) podcast with my co-host, Dai Barnes. This episode was entitled ‘The Random Show’, as we tried to discuss things other than those we do on a regular basis. That included digital employability, the magic of microcopy, workplace misogyny, ranty comments, sideways dictionaries, liberal high-achievers, and… getting lost in the woods.
- Sorting out a books page on this blog (finally!)
- Working on a book proposal. I’ve kept putting this off, but I’ve finally come up with an angle that I think works. Please do take a look, and thanks for those who have added their thoughts so far!
- Curating and creating Issue #006 of Badge News, the new bi-weekly newsletter from We Are Open Co-op for those interested in keeping up-to-date with what’s happening in the world of Open Badges.
- Catching up with Liz Dobrée from the Ufi Charitable Trust about some ideas I’ve had, Titus Alexander about some ideas he’s had, and Richard Speight about what he’s up to next.
- Making giant things out of cardboard with my family on Saturday afternoon, thanks to a great event at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
- Writing:
- My Daily Routine (Open Educational Thinkering, 17th March 2017)
- What does it mean to be ‘digitally employable’? (Literaci.es, 16th March 2017)
- How to ‘define the cast’ (We Are Open blog, 16th March 2017)
- Stoicism, mysticism and getting lost in the woods (Discours.es, 16th March 2017)
- Outcomes of a pay-what-you-want pricing model (Discours.es, 14th March 2017)
- The failure of pre-filtering (Discours.es, 14th March 2017)
- Badges, Proof and Pathways [DML Central] (Open Educational Thinkering, 13th March 2017)
Next week, I’m working from home Monday-Thursday, then heading up some mountains on Friday/Saturday.
I make my living helping people and organisations become more productive in their use of technology. If you’ve got something that you think I might be able to help with, please do get in touch! Email: [email protected]
