Weeknote 03/2015
This week I’ve been:
- Writing a Learning Pathways whitepaper with Karen Smith. We’ll be working on this until the end of March, so this will be a regular item every week until then! I wrote Section 1 and part of Section 2 this week.
- Using iDoneThis with the Mozilla Learning Networks team. I’m delighted about this initiative and I just hope everyone uses it. As a remote worker, it’s always more difficult to find out what people are up to than when you’re co-located.
- Giving feedback on some Toronto Hive privacy badges work (in association with the Canadian government). More on that when the work’s made public.
- Commenting on a ‘Credentials 2.0’ document for Mozilla’s Webmaker badges plan in 2015.
- Created a sample questionnaire for those testing Webmaker Clubs.
- Beginning to build out the Webmaker curriculum wiki. None of it is finished, but as well as starting a glossary I’ve written the first draft for absolute beginners on:
- Submitting my Heath & Wellness receipts for Q4 2014.
- Writing a blog post on How we’re building v1.5 of Mozilla’s Web Literacy Map in Q1 2015
- Updating my public-facing calendar to reflect both my personal and work availability (on a free/busy basis)
- Hosting the first Web Literacy Map v1.5 community call. These will run until the end of March. I tidied up and posted the audio, along with an overview of what we decided.
- Leading a Connected Learning webinar on An Introduction to ‘Teaching the Web’ and ‘Web Literacy’. I was grateful to have Mozilla contributors Ian O’Byrne and Greg McVerry to help out! The recording is here.
- Meeting up with Sunil Rodger to talk interdisciplinary stuff.
- Writing blog posts about:
- Scripting the first hour of each (week)day
- My next e-book: three options for you to vote on
- Join me this Thursday for a Connected Learning webinar: An Introduction to ‘Teaching the Web’ and ‘Web Literacy’
- On the difference between ‘ought’ and ‘is’ (and getting from one to the other)
- Wednesday Wisdom #21: Born in the right century
- The ABC of creating a system for personal productivity
Next week I’m heading down to Sheffield Hallam University on Monday. I’ll be meeting with Guy Merchant and Cathy Burnett about some work they’re doing around a charter for new literacies that relates closely to Mozilla’s work. We first discussed it at the Literacy Research conference in Florida last month. I’m also hoping to catch up with Sue Beckingham about the work she’s doing and perhaps persuade her to start a Webmaker Club!
Other than that, I’m working from home as usual. No BETT for me this year.
