Weeknote 43/2018
This week I’ve been:
- Sending out Issue #321 of my Thought Shrapnel newsletter (last Sunday). It was entitled ‘Small talk and tiny conferences’ and was, as ever, made possible via those who support me on Patreon.
- Editing and releasing Episode 111 of the Today In Digital Education (TIDE) podcast with my co-host Dai Barnes, after recording it during our walks in the Lake District last weekend. We entitled this episode ‘Live in the Lakes’ and discussed all manner of things, sometimes in a coherent way!
- Travelling down to London for the Mozilla Festival with my family. They had a great time, and I so enjoyed meeting friends old and new. A joy.
- Trying to decide whether to move our family to Barcelona. My wife received a job offer, but the salary is way too low for someone of her talents and experience.
- Working on the MoodleNet project:
- Welcoming Mayel back from his 3-week holiday. It’s good to have him back!
- Continuing to work through the backend development issues in Gitlab.
- Running a MozFest session with Mayel on decentralised technologies and MoodleNet. It was well-attended and people were very interested in what we’re building — including a guy from the W3C!
- Pitching for a MOSS (Mozilla Open Source Support) grant. We weren’t expecting to do this, but were encouraged to do so when we got talking to some people at Mozilla about a privacy and security review from a decentralised point of view.
- Preparing for MoodleMoot US. I’m flying straight from MozFest to Denver for a MoodleNet workshop on Tuesday.
- Creating a front-end development update screencast, based on the latest work that Outlandish have done for us.
- Curating interesting things I came across on the Thought Shrapnel blog:
- Openness, sharing, and choosing a CC license
- Tennessee Williams on the problems that come with success
- What would you do if you were the richest man in the world? Now you can find out!
- Configuring your iPhone for productivity (and privacy, security?)
- Designing calm products
- Is planning just guessing?
- Recording two microcasts, available only to Patreon supporters:
Next week I’m in Denver, CO, USA for MoodleMoot US. I get back home on Thursday, when I’ll be working on stuff for CET Israel.
