Met, you on Twitter two days ago, was searching for more stuff on Digital literacies and wham, this morning I stumble upon your great post on Tetrads & Connectivism. A real life example of @gsiemens contention that the "... starting point of connectivism is the individual...." What particularly clicked with me is your idea that we need to see education in terms of discourse(s) rather than as transmission. Probably why I've felt uncomfortable with all the information literacy stuff that I've been reading recently. Feels like things are framed within a transmission framework, as a state to be achieved. Maybe they've tried to apply the tetrad to digital media, but found it an impossible task. Or maybe, judging by the amount of dead links, they've given up. You've got me thinking out loud. Thanks

Thanks Doug. Also appreciate your attention to new forms of literacy. I work with a digital media research group at the University of California and the issue of digital literacies and access is repeatedly surfacing around the world.

Really accessible translation of some heady concepts, Doug. In fact, it is difficult to see how such a generalised notion of ‘digital literacy’ would have time to ’solidify’ and reside within an individual in a pure form. " - and the concept of "trajectories" - Great stuff. Opened up my understanding even more. Thanks.

Your examples of different networks an individual might simultaneously belong to, leading to what you say – “literacies must be multiple, ever-changing and quickly evolving.
