I wrote a short piece on this subject based on multimedia in cooperative leanring. Has references to Denning, Smith and Blosser et.c if you ever want more scholarly evidence to back this up. Really fascinating topic as research results show a very positive impact. Worth checking out some of Phillip Smith's research on cooperative leanring at:
http://iwse.osu.edu/isefaculty/smith/edcooplearning.htm
Happy to e-mail you the piece I wrote if it's of interest. - Just let me know an email address and I'll attach it.
We created some multimedia mysteries with Ollie Bray with this approach in mind and they seem to have gone down very well. As with most things though, I think you have to have an engaged and harmonious class to begin with, otherwise it can be difficult to make such activities work.

Yes, I remember going to Futurelab's conference about this. Interestingly, the RSA (who sponsor the whole thing) are currently advertising for teachers for their new Academy...

Doug, this is precisely the approach that teachers should be using: it's the way to make ICT use relevant and meaningful - and enables learners to do things that would otherwise be, at best, restricted and, at worst, impossible.

You may be interested in checking out the Oracle Education Foundation's 21st Century Learning Institute: http://www.oraclefoundation.org/

It's a way that teachers can be encouraged to dip a toe into the ocean of ICT-based, collaborative enquiry learning.

I like this post very much. But it's always good to see some ideas of how this might be achieved. Have you seen the futurelabs work on this: http://www.enquiringminds.org.uk/

Really good resource for developing enquiry based learning with the pupils setting the enquiry.
