Interesting, I guess it's only a matter of time before things like TeachMeet reach my shores in Malaysia!

It is amazing how creative you can be when some of the basic hierarchical structures have been taken away. I was recently invited to join a discussion/workshop in Bratislava (very fancy - I know!) about how ICT can be used to encourage learning and teaching. We had meetings in the afternoon which were very productive but the real creative outcomes occurred in the evening when people's 'hats' had been removed and we shared our individual expertise and experience.

Earlier this evening, I joined a Twitter Group for teachers. I did this because, as a Technology Director and 36 year educator, I want to be able to connect with others who are trying to make a difference for teachers and students by using and sharing tech-based tools and resources. I didn't realize that the twitter group did an auto post when anyone joined because others whom I follow on twitter had not yet joined. Apparently you had received several tweets from others about the group, which I am sure was annoying. I received quite a few as well.
As a result of the twitter group tweets, you vowed to "un-follow" the next person who sent that message. I was the "lucky" recipient of that honor-and was publicly "un-followed".
I come to twitter to learn. I come to twitter because I am looking for the kind of "unorganized" network where I can learn and share and give and take. I am not a prolific twitterer, and I probably gain more than I give back to that unorganized network. But, please "un-follow" me because of what the 140 characters that I tweet say or because you don't believe that I offer value to your unorganized network- not because of a few characters posted unknowingly on my behalf.
Whether you follow me or not is of little significance to either of us. I will continue to follow you, and appreciate the resources and thoughts that you will share. The students and teachers in my schools are the beneficiaries of the many wonderful posts that come to me through twitter, and hopefully through twitter groups as well.
