Picasa Mobile

I know that I seem to promote pretty much everything Google come out with, but that’s because they’re innovative. Oh, and almost everything they release is free. Their latest offering is a mobile version of the excellent and intuitive Picasa software used by many to organize their photos. Simply browse to picasaweb.google.com/m/ on your mobile phone.

This could be great for educators as it links with Picasa Web Albums. The images are automatically resized and scaled to fit on the device’s screen. Students have an easy and direct way to view content related to their course. At the moment, there is no way to directly post a photograph taken, but I’m sure that functionality isn’t far away. Essentially, educators have a means of putting a large number of visual materials online which students can comment upon directly from their mobile phone.

There is also a search facility, which means that students can search by tag through the sources, Powerpoint slides, etc. that you as an educator put online. Is it better than Flickr’s offering? Well, I need time to check both services out properly with my Nokia N95, and I do love Flickr…
